About Joe Duket

Joe Duket I am self-taught as a photographer beginning in 1971 when I was stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army. I bought a 35mm Yashica Electro 35 and took photos across Europe over the course of the next two years. Taking a course in photo developing on the Army post allowed me to experiment with different techniques, as well. Over the past 40-plus years, I have progressed through a variety of 35mm cameras until I entered the digital age in 1992 with my first Sony Mavica. It's "astounding" 1.3 megapixels was state-of-the-art for the time, but I now look back at the grainy photos taken with it and shudder to think how much better they'd have been with today's technology.

I now live in the Appalachian Mountains of north Georgia which abound with beauty. As for subject matter, I have always favored nature and wildlife. However, you will note from my galleries that my photography spans a wide array of subjects. Composition is everything in my opinion and I work hard at capturing images that create a feeling of peace and tranquility with the viewer.

In 2010, I was honored by Cowboys & Indians magazine when my photograph of a red fox in snow ("Snow Den" in the Wildlife Gallery) was selected among thousands of entrants as an Honorable Mention and published in its annual Photographing the West issue. Again, in 2014, my photograph "Great Horned Owl" was among the finalists in the wildlife category and published in its annual issue.

I hope that you enjoy viewing my work and will contact me if you have any questions.
